Taking a look at the new Dante

With the latest Devil may cry game to be released just 2 weeks away, lets take a look at what to expect in the now infamous new “Dante”.
THE DEMO
The demo was divided into two separate missions
the first mission is supposed to be a tutorial mission to grasp the new combat mechanics , and by new, i mean very different from other devil may cry titles. i cant tell  how hard it is to get used in the new combat style, but ill get into details later in the article…
the second mission however, is a single boss fight with an alien looking demon, which on my first impression was that it would be one easy boss fight.
as far as gameplay is concerned like i said before, the controls are very different from what hardcore DMC1-4 fans are gonna see, you will still get the mash same button 4 times to get dante’s sword combo and use guns to juggle enemies in the air, but in utilizing more satisfying combos you need to hold the trigger buttons in order to change your weapons in between- to further chain or juggle an enemy in extreme fashion. this involves timing and strategic inputs. because of this it comes a sacrifice of not having a lock on system.
Devil trigger is still here and is ninja theories attempt to justifying that this is still devil may cry, by activating it, the world suddenly distorts and enemies freeze and start to float leaving them open for aerial combos.
the graphics in DmC is fine well done, the color palette has been used very well and the shiny vibrant atmosphere can be pleasing to look at, the only problem is at times rough textures are indeed visible especially on cutscenes.
the game runs fairly smooth in 30fps, but still not enough compared to other hack n slash games ex.(God of War)
the game features punk , metal soundtracks but it takes some time getting used to     . it still needs a long way to beat the soundtracks that previous DMC games was known for. voice acting on the other hand was decent and at times unnecessary,  dante’s catchphrases turn from cool to downright annoying and would certainly aggravate players rather than taking it as a joke.
the enemy types vary from flying babies to chainsaw wielding demons, some of the demons have different colored shields that can only be destroyed by using that kind of weapon, in one case an enemy wielding a red shield has to be taken down with axe type attacks , while cyan shielded enemies can only be destroyed by your scythe. this can open up a strategic approach when fighting different types of enemies at the same time.
this is my impression at the demo so far, people expecting this to be like the previous Devil may cry games will be disappointed, but with the game having a refined hack and slash gameplay mechanic that ninja theory is trying to pull off, a whole different setting and gorgeous graphics, this title deserves a chance. despite of dante’s short hair and bad boy attitude and subpar soundtrack.
this game will kick off gaming this 2013 when it releases january 15!
