the game greets you with an awesome splash screen with raiden and his HF blade.
at the start of the demo their would be an introduction to the slicing system that your gonna use most of the time.
to activate slicing mode you press L1 ( dont know how for the xbox) you use left analog stick to adjust angle, and right to slice. the demo lets you try to slice objects such as boxes and watermelons, the interesting bit is , their is dummies that has hostages that you need to accurately slice with your blade to prevent hurting the hostage. this requires carefully dismembering opponents , and provide challenging ways to approach an opponent , hopefully they would be many scenarios like this for the whole game.
after the short tutorial , the demo goes into the cutscene . showing off raiden's Cyborg suit and introducing characters and their roles in helping raiden. i was glad to see that platinum games included everything that metal gear is known for like the radio calling , and saving. like in metal gear solid , the characters have different radio frequencies and provide different services to help raiden in his every mission. character models and animation are like in bayonetta which is a good thing.
after the cutscene raiden was dropped into an island where terrorists are located.you then get to your first fight,
mashing buttons with square and triangle works , but it would be most useful to parry enemies by slicing on the opposite angle of your enemies attack, therefore leaving them open for combos. so far the combos are minimal in the demo as i am spamming different combinations and didnt get different results , so i am thinking combos required to be unlocked like having rpg elements in the game , but im still not sure.
one thing to note though , sometimes when you get to fight enemies there would be a battle zone like that of (okami). so you get to fight in close spaces though i only saw this on the first fight, and never seen again as i further progress in the demo.
using Blade mode has a price though , the blue meter is drained whenever you use it, the only way to replenish it is what they called zandatsu , basically you slice off enemies body like you did in fruit ninja and getting the "juice" . but i noticed that doing zandatsu fully replenishes raiden's life too...
continuing the demo, you get to use the AR in raiden's suit useful for having stealthy approach against enemies. and you begin fighting the mech troops that was in MGS 4. this baddies are harder to put down as they got armor. and they fire projectiles at you . and the only chance to dodge it is by running (R1) , i was dumbfounded cause i cant figure out how to dodge, lock on is unknown as well....
3/4s into the demo , item usage is thought to you , Rations are used for healing items, grenades and rocket launchers can be used as a sub weapon.
then the boss battle, i cant say much about it , it was not challenging for me at least though my father played it and cannot beat it. i just ran and attack like in ninja gaiden and was able to defeat it.
Summary:
Metal gear rising is gonna be unusual for metal gear fans.
i dont like to classify it as a Metal gear SOLID game , though it has some of the features from it.
the game plays like bayonetta but in a metal gear setting so its not a stealth game.
but a hack n slash game..
i just hope that the gameplay doesnt get too repetitive and should provide a good plotline for the story
still ,the game does offer some incredible visuals and the game plays like in 60fps
that enough make this game a must buy for people who would just like to slice n dice people into tiny bits of pieces in full HD.
